News of Saint Anthony's eloquence reached Saint Francis of Assisi, who held a strong distrust of the brotherhood's commitment to a life of poverty. However, in Saint Anthony, he found a friend.  In 1224, Saint Francis of Assisi entrusted his friars' pursuits of studies to Saint Anthony (therefore, it is normal to find Saint Anthony's medal with Saint Francis of Assisi on the reverse side of it).
