Saint Thomas More Chaplet Prayers

************

On the Crucifix Pray

Good Lord, give me the grace, in all my fear and agony, to have recourse to that great fear and wonderful agony that Thou, my sweet Savior, hadst at the Mount of Olivet before Thy most bitter passion, and in the meditation thereof, to conceive ghostly comfort and consolation profitable for my soul.

Almighty God, take from me all vainglorious minds, all appetites of mine own praise, all envy, covetise, gluttony, sloth, and lechery, al wrathful affections, all appetite of revenging, all desire or delight of other folks' harm, all pleasure in provoking any person to wrap and anger, all delight of exprobation or insultation against any persons in their affliction and calamity.

And give me, good Lord, a humble, lowly, quiet, peaceable, patient, charitable, kind, tender, and pitiful mind, with all my works, and all my words, and all my thoughts, to have a taste of Thy Holy, Blessed Spirit.  Give me, good Lord, a full faith, a firm hope, and a fervent charity, a love to the good Lord incomparable above the love to myself; and that I love nothing to Thy displeasure, but everything in an order to Thee.  Take from me, good Lord, this lukewarm fashion, or rather keycold manner of meditation, and this dullness in praying until Thee.  And give me warmth, delight, and quickness in thinking upon Thee.  And give me Thy grace to long for Thy holy sacraments, and especially to rejoice in the presence of Thy very blessed body, sweet Savior Christ, in the holy sacrament of the altar, and duly to thank Thee for Thy gracious visitation therewith, and at that high memorial, with tender compassion, to remember and consider Thy most bitter passion.

Pray the Our Father on each of the first three beads

Our Father, Who art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy name.  Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.   Amen.

Pray the Hail Mary on each of the next three beads

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with Thee.  Blessed art Thou among women and blessed is the fruit of Thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

Pray the Glory Be on the final set of three beads

Glory Be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.  As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be; World without end.  Amen.

On the Medal Pray

Angelic Doctor, Saint Thomas, prince of theologians and model of philosophers, bright ornament of the Christian world, light of the Church and patron of all Catholic schools, who learned wisdom without guile and communicates it without envy, pray for us to the Son of God, who is Wisdom itself, that by the coming of the Spirit of Wisdom upon us, we may clearly understand that which you did teach, and, by imitating you, may bring to completion that which you did do; that we may be made partakers both of your doctrine and your holiness, whereby you did shine on Earth even as the sun; and finally that we may enjoy with you in heaven forevermore, the most delectable fruits of the same, praising together with your divine wisdom through endless ages.  Amen.
